Help us improve recycling and waste prevention in West Sussex by taking part in our short survey
Last year, 27% of respondents who took part in our recycling survey said that they couldn't recycle black plastic, pots, tubs and trays in West Sussex. But did you know you can recycle plastic, pots, tubs and trays of any colour in your recycling bin at home?
This is just one example of how helpful last summer’s recycling survey was in helping us to educate residents on all things recycling and waste prevention. That's why we're running it again!
As part of our mission to help reduce waste and increase recycling, we're re-running our short survey to gather information on recycling and waste prevention knowledge in West Sussex.
Whether you took part in last year’s survey or not, we want to hear from you.
Take part in the West Sussex Recycles survey.
Thank you to all our fantastic Waste Prevention Advisor volunteers!
It's Volunteer Week and we want to take this opportunity to shine a light on all the amazing work our Waste Prevention Advisor volunteers (WPAs) do across the county.
Our volunteers educate residents on waste prevention, recycling and how materials are processed in West Sussex. They offer their time to visit schools and local community groups and host information stands.
They are full of knowledge, helpful advice and have a passion for recycling! Thank you to our WPA's for their hard work, dedication and commitment!
Check out our poem to see what it means to be a volunteer, or check out our events page and come and say "Hi".
Father's Day doesn't need to cost the earth!
Father's Day is a wonderful opportunity to show appreciation for the dads in our lives. This year, try to make it extra special by celebrating sustainably and minimising waste!
Here are a few tips to help you honour your father while being kinder to the planet:
- Thoughtful gifting: Choose meaningful, eco-friendly gifts such as a reusable coffee cup! Opt for experiences over material gifts - think about a day out hiking, a special homemade meal, or a class of some kind.
- Low waste wrapping: Ditch traditional wrapping paper for more sustainable options. Use reusable gift bags, fabric wraps, or even old newspapers.
- Homemade goodies: Instead of store-bought treats, bake your dad's favourite cookies or cook his favourite meal. Homemade gifts are often more appreciated and reduce packaging waste.
- Digital greetings: Send a heartfelt e-card or a personalised video message instead of a paper card. It's a modern, waste-free way to convey your love.
By making a few conscious choices, we can celebrate Father's Day in a way that honours both our dads and our planet.
Happy Father’s Day to all those celebrating!
New climate action planning tool for schools!
We’re excited to announce the launch of West Sussex Wastebuster’s Climate Action planning tool as a fantastic addition to our waste and recycling education programme.
The online planning tool supports schools across the county in creating and implementing an impactful Climate Action Plan. Guiding primary and secondary schools by creating a tailored framework on waste, water, transport or energy that can easily be inserted into the school’s Climate Action Plan.
This tool is free to access for West Sussex schools. For more information please email info@wastebuster.co.uk.
West Sussex Wastebuster also provides a range of free interactive activities for families and opportunities to make money for schools.
Upcoming waste prevention events
Throughout West Sussex, we're proud to be working alongside a team of passionate recycling and waste prevention volunteers. They attend public and private events to promote waste prevention, reuse and recycling, and are keen to answer questions on the county's recycling provision and waste prevention.
Alongside the below public events, we are attending numerous privately hosted talks and events for local community groups, schools and other organisations.
If you would like our team to provide a talk, visit your school, attend an event, or for more information on the above please email waste.prevention@westsussex.gov.uk.
