Love your waste this Valentine's Day
Valentine's Day is a time to express love and affection, but it doesn't have to come at the expense of our environment.

Some easy ideas to consider
By making mindful choices, we can celebrate while minimising waste.
Thoughtful experiences over material gifts
Instead of purchasing physical items, consider gifting experiences that create lasting memories without generating waste. This could include a romantic walk, a homemade candlelit dinner, or a visit to a local art exhibition. Such experiences often hold more sentimental value than traditional gifts.
Low waste cards and messages
Traditional Valentine's Day cards often end up in the bin. Opt for digital e-cards or, if you prefer a physical card, choose ones made from recycled materials. Better yet, craft a handmade card using materials you already have at home, adding a personal touch to your message.
Flowers
While flowers are a classic Valentine's gift, they often don’t last very long and come wrapped in plastic! Consider giving a potted plant that can be enjoyed long-term or ditch the flowers completely.
Homemade and zero waste gifts
Handmade gifts can be both meaningful and environmentally friendly. Ideas include baking your partner's favourite treats, creating a photo album of shared memories, or gifting IOU coupons. These gifts show thoughtfulness and reduce reliance on mass-produced items.
Reusable packaging
When wrapping gifts, avoid single use wrapping paper. Use reusable fabric wraps, scarves, or recycled paper. These alternatives add a unique touch and can be reused multiple times.
Recycle
Once you have reduced your waste as much as possible, don’t forget to recycle everything you can!
