Stay Up Late is a grassroots charity that enables adults with learning disabilities and autistic people to lead active social lives and make decisions about how they want to live their life. Our Gig Buddies projects pair up volunteers with people with learning disabilities and/or autistic people in Sussex to be friends and to attend events together.

What we do

  • Volunteer befriending scheme
  • We match people through a shared love of the same music or cultural activity. We ask volunteers to commit to 1 gig per month.
  • Potential participants can self-refer through our simple application form. There's also a simple application process for volunteers.
  • All volunteers are trained, have full DBS checks and receive on-going support. We meet all participants and volunteers before they are matched, and support the matching process.
  • We work to tackle social isolation and push back against restrictive social care practices.
